Musical Director

Chris “The Puppet Master” Lee

Chris Lee began his conducting career in mid 2009 after the departure of Northern’s founding Musical Director, Andrew Power. Chris has been a part of Northern Brass since its formation from the more senior members of Jack Kelly’s Juniors in early 2006, taking the role of a ‘spare parts’ player, playing where required!

As an Primary school educator himself, Chris has taken a great interest in the development of the younger members of Darebin City Brass, teaching and supporting those who made the jump to the secondary senior band of the organisation.

Chris began playing trombone in 1997 under the tuition of teacher and now great mate, Jason Mears. After high school in 2002, Chris played under Jason Mears at B Grade band, Moorabbin Brass. Following many state and national successes within Moorabbin Band, he was offered a position in the A Grade Preston band, in mid 2005. He has held the position of Solo Trombone of this band ever since.

In January 2009, Chris was invited by Professor David King to join the National Australia Brass, a gathering of some of the finest brass musicians in Australia. In 2010 Chris was appointed First Trombone of this band.

He recently won the Victorian State Solo Tenor Trombone title, the second time he has achieved this milestone.

Chris plays Trombone in the senior A Grade Preston Band and is also the current President of Darebin City Brass.
