Darebin City Brass is based in Preston, Melbourne,  VIC, Australia.

The organisation consists of three brass groups:

Preston Brass Band

Preston Band was established in 1934. The band quickly developed to A Grade

status where it has remained since. Preston Band competes in local, national and overseas competitions plus

regularly performs at various events in the local community

Preston is currently looking for a new MD.

Darebin City Brass invites applications and expressions of interest from qualified,

experienced and enthusiastic musicians for the position of

MUSICAL DIRECTOR for our A Grade band Darebin City Brass - Preston Band.

Northern Brass

Northern Brass is an intermediate band that was formed in 2006. This band has had a fantastic journey since they started -

the band won the Australian D Grade section in 2007 and came a close second in 2008.

Plus Northern Brass are the current D Grade Victorian State Champions!

In March 2008, Northern was regraded to C Grade!

Northern Brass Wins Bendigo Eisteddfod - First Performance in C Grade!!!

On Sunday 1st June, Northern Brass competed for the first time in C Grade at the

Bendigo Eisteddfod, and won by 7 points!!

Jason Mears resigns as MD of Preston Band

Jason Mears has announced that he is taking a break from conducting, and has resigned as Musical Director of Darebin City Brass – Preston Band. His wife, Sarah Mears, who was Secretary of Darebin City Brass and a percussion player with Preston, has also resigned.

Jason was Musical director of Preston Band for approx four years, during which he took the band to numerous local and National competitions, as well as a trip overseas to compete in the New Zealand Championships. He has also conducted the band at various local and country gigs, including the popular Darebin City Brass cabarets.

He has made the decision to take a break from the stress and hard work of taking an A Grade Brass Band due to a number of factors, the main one being that he has some health issues, and will need to take some time to concentrate on getting his health back on track.

He will still continue to play principal cornet for Darebin’s second band, Northern Brass.
